Coder responsibilities include reviewing the entire medical record and assigning the correct ICD-9 and CPT codes to each data element; recording and sequencing clinical data in correct order; and contacting and working with physicians as needed for clarification of details.

MLT/MT/Lab Tech

Medical Laboratory Technologist/Technician duties include performing complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriological tests.  This involves microscopically examining blood and other body fluids and making cultures to determine the presence of bacteria, fungi, parasites, or other microorganisms.  Lab Techs analyze samples for chemical content or chemical reaction and determine concentrations of compounds such as blood glucose and cholesterol levels.  They also type and cross match blood samples for transfusions.

Pharmacy Technician duties include filling orders for unit doses and prepackaged pharmaceuticals and performing other duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.  Pharmacy Tech duties also include keeping records of drugs delivered to pharmacy, storing incoming merchandise in proper locations, and informing the pharmacy supervisor of drug shortages.

Radiologic Technologist/Technician duties include taking x-rays and CAT scans to use in diagnosing medical problems and administering non-radioactive materials into patients' bloodstreams for diagnostic purposes.  Some specialize in diagnostic imaging technologies, such as computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound.

Respiratory Tech

Respiratory Therapy Technician duties include evaluating, treating, and caring for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders.  Also, administering specified respiratory treatment and medications, using a variety of life support equipment to treat specific patients and diseases.  Responsible for conducting electrocardiograms and cardiac stress tests; setting up Holter monitors; performing pulmonary function testing for physician diagnosis of cardiopulmonary disease; attending high-risk infant deliveries, CPR, and Trauma; and performing arterial blood gas puncture and analysis.

Surgical Tech

Surgical Technologist duties include working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical staff to deliver appropriate patient care before, during, and after surgery.  Surgical Tech's are responsible for preparing the operating room by selecting and opening sterile instruments, assembling and adjusting.  They provide physical and emotional support for the patients prior to the surgery.
